Monthly Meeting Report – December 9th

Digital Photography and Imaging Club of Naples
Special Interest Group

of the Naples Free-Net
Naples Digital Photography Club

To all DPI-SIG members and other interested parties,

A sincere welcome to our five new members!

Edwin Cohen, Priscilla McGuire, Ted Mozer, Ron Perkins, and Ian Vaughan.

Jeff Bilyeau presented our members’ theme pictures ” H O L I D A Y S P I R I T ” to another full house in a beautifully decorated meeting room, compliments of Edison State College. Between the many appropriate holiday theme images, the holiday decorations, and holiday music accompanying the images, we all felt in the holiday spirit! Jeff thanked those members who followed the renaming format this month, which made his job much easier and less time consuming. All photos will eventually appear on the web-site’s page of slideshows. http://www.dpi-sig.org

Bob Melin delivered the calendars from Shy Wolf Sanctuary. The calendars feature our members’ pictures from the annual outing at the Sanctuary. Bob will bring the calendars again to next month’s meeting; they are $10.00 each. We had a surprise visit from Deanna and Sue from Shy Wolf Sanctuary and two of the wolf dogs. They came to thank our camera club for donating our images for their fund raiser calendar. We had a quick picture taking session around the Christmas tree for people who brought their camera to the meeting.

A new DVD is available from Len Messineo on “The Exotic Everglades, A Work in Progress”. Len will have his DVDs for sale at the January meeting at $10.00 each.

An outing for January will be announced by Outing Director, Les Schwartz, at a later date. Watch your email for the information. The outing leader for the Naples Boat Parade this month was Donna Cullen.

Sarasota Camera Club member, Carmen Schettino-Master Photographer, reviewed how to “Capture the Light” after the sun has gone down and the skies have darkened. Three things are needed: a camera, a tripod and a cable release! He presented a slide show of different lighting scenarios and explained how he photographed the images. Carmen usually uses TV or Manual mode for night shots and starts with ISO of 400 and above. He offered to have a practice run at the Naples Boat Parade sites on Friday, the night before the event, to help our photographers set up for the night shots.

Donna Cullen introduced her favorite computer guru, Greg Ream, who is well versed in PC, Mac for hardware or software. Greg will present a program for us next month. Greg ran the computer for Donna while she proceeded to give her results of judging the DPI-SIG 2010 Year-End Competition. Donna also explained why she chose the various images. The year-end final is comprised of the three previous competitions of 2010 and is judged with awards in each category. Following are the winners:
